We bought this track set for our son's 9th birthday. He LOVES it. It took my husband over 2 hours to put it all together. The track is very good quality and durable. The two cars that COME WITH THE SET are the best cars on the track. In addition to the two cars that come with the set, we bought the BatMobile, Joker Mobile and Police Car. The Police Car is cool with flashing lights, but is too heavy to make it around the curves and absolutely cannot make it over any of the loops. The Joker Mobile broke after one hour of gentle play, the little pin on the bottom came off and we cannot use until we fix. The Batmobile is the best of the three additional cars we bought (and has flashing blue lights), however it, too, is larger than the included cars and does not handle the track/curves/loops well at all. On a flat round/oval track with wider curves however, they would be great.
Driving the cars on the track requires a little bit of practice such as learning when to slow down and speed up, and may be frustrating to younger children (4 and under). Unless the younger ones just really enjoy watching the cars fly off the track!
The set is large. We set it up on a table and it covers a 60 inch by 50 inch table when fully set up. If you have a large open space that does not get alot of traffic that would be ideal for this track, as it is not easy to take apart and put back together quickly.
Overall we are pleased with our purchase. We also bought the extension kit, but really did not need it. We are not using it yet, and the track is already very large. I definitely would NOT buy the additional cars if you want them to do curves and loops, they will not!!
My son LOVES this toy. He picked this over a Nintendo DS for his birthday after seeing it in a catalogue. His face was priceless when he opened it. Our three children (and us parents!) must have spend HOURS playing with this track the first weekend we had it. It is great quality, great fun, and we def think they price represents the good quality of the track. Again, I would not purchase the extension kit or the extra cars b/c the way the track comes pre packaged is MORE than enough! After the first hour or so of play, my son has not used the Batmobile, Joker or Police car. They look cool, but the kids will quickly choose to use the car that works best on the track, and that is def the two cars that come with the track.
