My son loves it. He's 3 and has quickly learned to use the backhoe to move dirt and sand. The backhoe leg could be more sturdy. I wouldn't want to see a child much larger than my son (35 pounds) sit on it. The assembly instructions were pretty weak. Took about 3 hours to build just because the instructions weren't clear. I could build the whole thing now that I've gone through it once in 30 to 45 minutes.

This is a great toy and I hate to take anything away from it, but after 3 1/2 years (my son is now 7 and weighs 55lbs.) the back hoe is broken to the point that we just removed it from the toy. My son has the things that you move the front bucket with rigged with bungy cords because they broke, too. However, he still loves it and plays with it frequently. We like it so much that we are now ordering another for my youngest son, as well. I just thought for that price and with a name like caterpillar it would last at least until my son had outgrown it. I suppose some sturdier shifters or what ever you call those things would do the trick. My son is rough on toys and it is kept outside, but I would think the maker would know that would be the case.

Great worksite fun for a grandson that ocassionally accompanies his dad to construction sites.

I purchased this toy for my 4 year old son. He is very much into anything construction related. He is extremenly happy with this toy and plays with it for hours at a time. It is very well made. The quality is excellent. I highly recommend this toy for any child with a love for building things and digging in the dirt!
